The Caterpillars Sting

The oak trees are covered with cute, fuzzy caterpillars that will sting the heck out of people that touch them. They come out every year, but there seem to be more than usual this year. They don't usually hurt the oak trees, but they can do some damage if there are too many of them munching on the oak leaves.

On a funny-but-gross note, Puss caterpillars (most Texans call them asps) actually project their poop away from themselves so predators can't find them by following their feces. The link has a video. Seriously amazing to see how far the little suckers can get that stuff.
